The linoleum block prints of Foust are all about the moment and the instant. She portrays a fragment of a scene, thus leaving the piece open for interpretation.The forces the stories behind her work to depend upon the viewer and the experiences the viewer brings to the work. While the work undoubtedly intrigues the viewer, the subject matter does not allow the viewer any comfort or involvement that a simple narrative might provide. This feeling of distance has roots in the artist's three-year stay in England, an experience that Foust says taught her what it was like to be a stranger or outsider. Foust adds color to her black and white prints by hand-coloring with watercolors. Each print takes a considerable amount of time in which Foust presses the paper to the ink block with the same spoon she has used for ten years. Because of the work involved, she produces a low edition of her prints, making each print a "one-of-a-kind." Foust makes her art accessible to many people in her pricing (which for framed pieces is very reasonable), her variety, and her complexity of work.
